About LaVette Grice
I was raised in the sunshine state of Florida in a small town called Winter Haven. After graduation I decided to join the Air Force because the brochure said that I would travel to exotic places. My first exotic place was basic training in San Antonio, Texas. Then off to weapons training school in Denver. My first permanent assignment was in Osan AB, Korea (exotic was not the word I was thinking when I got there). Other exotic places included Langley, Virginia and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Having had my fill of exotic places I got out of the military and moved to Atlanta where I became an aircraft electrical and electronics technician for Lockheed Aerospace. However, my secret dream was to own my own business and work in finance and investments. There was always a hidden copy of the Wall Street Journal in my briefcase. I started going to the library and bookstores to study real estate investments which led me to the mortgage industry. I worked as a loan processor and a closing specialist for a large banking company and was quickly promoted to closing manager. Later I became a financial strategist and remained in finance and marketing until the crash of 2008 when I, like many others, decided I needed to repurpose myself. I learned how to build online marketing systems developing websites, and social media platforms. I gradually began using blogs, web pages and videos to market products for myself and other business owners. After 10 years, my skills have led me right back to the industry where I started, but now with a new set of skills that fit in nicely with Rose City Mortgage. So, how did I wind up in Portland? I had driven across the country more than a few times but I had never been to the Pacific NW. One day while sitting in Atlanta traffic I had an epiphany or a breakdown…(you call it what you want but I don’t know the difference), I decided to pack up my car and take another road trip to Portland Oregon. It was nothing like I had seen before and I immediately fell for the city and the many unique characteristics of Oregon. Yep, needless to say, this was the exotic place I had been looking for all along.
